HarperCollins launches direct-to-consumer website

In the US, HarperCollins has launched a new website with direct-to-consumer sales of print books, ebooks and audiobooks, reports the Publishers Weekly. The new design will be rolled out to HarperCollins’ UK, Canadian and Australian websites over the next year, beginning with the UK in August. While HarperCollins’ US website has sold ebooks in the past, it has never sold print books. Global customers can buy ebooks from the new site where the publisher holds the rights, but only US customers can buy print books and audiobooks. Customers can also click ‘view more retailers’ to purchase books from other booksellers, including Amazon, Indiebound, Barnes & Noble, Apple and various independent bookstores in the US. HarperCollins US chief marketing officer Angela Tribelli said: ‘The elegant, consumer-centric design of the site provides an innovative platform for our authors that will boost the discoverability of their books, drive sales, and—ultimately—launch writing careers.’
