HarperCollins establishes promotional fund for indie booksellers

In the US, HarperCollins has established a fund to help retailers promote the publisher’s books, reports Publishers Weekly. The HarperCollins Promotional Fund (HCPF) began in July and offers ‘qualifying accounts’ access to additional funds to support promotional efforts, in consultation with HarperCollins reps. The funds are allocated based on a percentage of the retailer’s previous year’s net sales, and while the program is not limited to indie booksellers, HarperCollins said it presents a particular opportunity to support indies’ promotional efforts. ‘We know that indies play a huge but sometimes under-valued role in local communities, and we want to support their extraordinary efforts in building buzz around books,’ said HarperCollins president of sales Josh Marwell.
