Authors to earn higher royalties through new HarperCollins UK website
HarperCollins UK will pay authors a higher net royalty for ebooks sold through its new website than through other retailers, reports the Bookseller. HarperCollins UK launched its new website in August following the relaunch of the HarperCollins US website in July. The UK website offers direct-to-consumer sales of ebooks and an app to read ebooks. Print book sales are currently linked to retailer websites, such as Amazon, Waterstones and W H Smith, but HarperCollins said it plans to sell print books directly from the website later in the year. The publisher confirmed to the Bookseller that authors will earn more from direct ebooks sales through the website as the publisher must share the commission of ebooks sold via retailer websites.
