New name for Tasmania’s Ten Days on the Island festival
Tasmania’s biennial arts festival Ten Days on the Island has been renamed the Tasmanian International Arts Festival.
Artistic director David Malacari told the ABC that the new name better describes the festival for an international audience.
‘The old name … doesn’t say where we are or what we do, and when we’re talking on an international stage they seem to be pretty important things to be able to get out,’ said Malacari. ‘But when you say Tasmanian International Arts Festival they immediately have an understanding of what it is you do and where you are. I think that will help us contribute to a greater extent to Brand Tasmania, to Tasmania’s arts and cultural reputation, which is significant.’
The first festival under the new name will be held on 20-29 March 2015, with the program to be released on 12 November 2014.
