Kobo releases ebook statistics report
Kobo has released a report aimed at publishers and authors that explains its method of analysing ebook statistics. The report says that reader engagement statistics gathered from ereading devices can ‘help publishers unlock previously hidden equity within their publishing lists and inform decisions on which authors and franchises to invest in, which ones are running out of steam, and where trouble may lie within any individual book’. Titles with high reader engagement and low sales show that ‘readers who have stumbled upon these books have loved them’ and that it is ‘worth experimenting with marketing efforts to see if the books catch on with a wider audience’, while high reader engagement and high sales can ‘help identify when it is prudent to invest further in an author’ who might be the ‘next big author’. The report also suggests that ‘benchmarking engagement rates across genres and imprints can help a publisher drive performance’. Read the full report here.
