Shortlist announced for 2014 T.A.G. Hungerford Award

The authors shortlisted for the 2014 City of Fremantle T.A.G. Hungerford Award have been announced.

The all-female shortlist consists of:

  • Louise Allan
  • Madelaine Dickie
  • Portland Jones
  • Mihaela Nicolescu
  • Nicole Sinclair.

The winner will be announced in early 2015. They will receive a cash prize of $12,000 and a publishing contract with Fremantle Press.

Fremantle Press fiction publisher and Hungerford judge Georgia Richter said this year’s shortlist was unusual in that it ‘contains only women’ and ‘four out of five authors set their stories in the Asia Pacific’.

‘It is also clear from the sixty-one entries that new Western Australian authors are interested in exploring how we interact with the cultures and peoples of our near neighbours,’ she said.

The prize is awarded biennially to a full-length manuscript of fiction or creative nonfiction ‘by a Western Australian author previously unpublished in book form’.
