Chicken House partners with Altitude to develop book and film projects

In the UK, children’s publisher Chicken House and film production company Altitude have partnered to develop book and film projects simultaneously, reports the Bookseller. Chicken House managing director and publisher Barry Cunningham said he would find scripts or treatments and then develop the book and film at the same time ‘instead of waiting for a final book to take into movie production’. Cunningham said he decided to create the partnership after working with Altitude producer Will Clarke on Big Game. Clarke had approached Cunningham with the film script, about a 13-year-old boy who saves the US president, then Cunningham commissioned the book, which was released in January and sold in 20 countries. The film is due to be released in May. As previously reported by Books+Publishing, Penguin Random House US has partnered with Universal Pictures with the aim of adapting more books into film.
