Children’s Choice Book Awards 2015 winners announced in the US
In the US, the winners of the 2015 Children’s Book Council (CBC) Children’s Choice Book Awards have been announced. The awards, which are voted on by US children and teenagers, saw Chris Appelhans named Illustrator of the Year for Sparky! (Jenny Offill, Hachette), J A White named Children’s Choice Debut Author for The Thickety: A Path Begins (HarperCollins) and Jennifer Mathieu named Teen Choice Debut Author for The Truth About Alice (Hardie Grant Egmont). The Book of the Year winners included: Eva and Sadie and the Worst Haircut EVER! (Jeff Cohen, illus by Elanna Allen, HarperCollins) in the Kindergarten to Second Grade category; Kali’s Story (Jennifer Keats Curtis, illus by John Gomes, Arbordale) in the Third Grade to Fourth Grade category; The Dumbest Idea Ever! (Jimmy Gownley, Scholastic US) in the Fifth Grade to Sixth Grade category; and The One (Kiera Cass, HarperCollins) in the Teen category. The CBC announced the winners of this year’s awards in association with literacy organisation Every Child a Reader to launch the 96th annual Children’s Book Week, which will run until 10 May.
