Australian Book Design Awards 2015 winners announced
The Australian Book Designers Association (ABDA) announced the winners for the 2015 Book Design Awards at an event in Sydney on 22 May.
The winning titles in each category are:
Best designed literary fiction book
- A Fairy Tale (Jonas T Bengtsson, Scribe), designed by Allison Colpoys
Best designed commercial fiction book
- What Came Before (Anna George, Viking), designed by Laura Thomas
Best designed nonfiction book
- The Fictional Woman (Tara Moss, HarperCollins), designed by Tara Moss & Matt Stanton
Best designed series (including classics)
- ‘The Complete Asian Cookbook’ series (Charmaine Solomon, Hardie Grant), designed by Murray Batten
Best designed fully illustrated book under RRP $50
- Design Your Life (Vince Frost, Lantern), designed by Vince Frost
Best designed fully illustrated book over RRP $50
- The Making of Mona (Adrian Franklin, Viking), designed by Laura Thomas
Best designed cookbook
- Movida Solera (Frank Camorra & Richard Cornish, Lantern), designed by Daniel New

Designers’ choice best young adult / children’s cover of the year
- Max (Marc Martin, Viking), designed by Bruno Herfst & Marc Martin
Designers’ choice cover of the year

Designers’ choice book of the year
- Sepia (Martin Benn, Murdoch Books), designed by Debra Billson.
The awards were judged by designers Kirby Armstrong, Allison Colpoys, Vince Frost, Fabio Ongarato and David Pearson; Big W books buyer Meredith Drake; former S&S managing director Lou Johnson; and the Australian literary editor Stephen Romei. The designers’ choice awards were chosen by ABDA members at the winners presentation.
This is the second year that the awards have been run by ABDA, which took over management of the awards from the Australian Publishers Association. For more information about the awards, visit the website here.
