Wilderness Society announces 2015 children’s book award shortlists

The shortlists for the 2015 Wilderness Society Environment Award for Children’s Literature have been announced, including a new category for nonfiction titles.
The shortlisted books in each category are:
Fiction
- Lulu Bell and the Sea Turtle (Belinda Murrell, illus by Serena Geddes, Random House)
- Those Eco-Pirate Kids (Jon Tucker, Storm Bay Books)
- Rescue on Nim’s Island (Wendy Orr, illus by Geoff Kelly, A&U)
- The Vanishing Frogs of Cascade Creek (Emma Homes, Spark Street)
Picture fiction
- Zobi and the Zoox (Ailsa Wild, Briony Barr & Gregory Crocetti, illus by Aviva Reed, Scale Free Network)
- The Duck and Darklings (Glenda Millard, illus by Stephen Michael King, A&U)
- Rivertime (Trace Balla, A&U)
- Run Tree Run (Kelly Alsop, illus by Boris Silvestri, JoJo Publishing)
Nonfiction
- Emu (Claire Saxby, illus by Graham Byrne, Walker Books)
- Our Class Tiger (Aleesah Darlison, illus by Antonia Stylianou, OUP)
- Found and Made: The Art of Upcycling (Lisa Hölzl, Walker Books).
The award is presented annually to fiction and nonfiction books that ‘foster a love of wild places and wildlife in young Australians’ and ‘encourage a sense of responsibility for our natural world’. For more information, visit the Wilderness Society website here.
