Davitt Awards 2015 longlists announced

Sisters in Crime has announced the longlists for the 2015 Davitt Awards for the best crime books by Australian women.

There are 96 titles longlisted, including 44 adult novels, 14 young adult novels, 20 children’s novels and 18 nonfiction books. To see the longlists in each category, click here.

This year’s judges include Maggie Baron, Deborah Crabtree, Jacqui Horwood, Sylvia Loader, Michaela Lobb and Shelly Robertson. Judge chair Horwood said there had been an explosion of women’s crime writing over the past 15 years. ‘When the Davitt Awards were set up back in 2001, there were only seven books competing, though admittedly non-fiction crime books weren’t then in contention,’ said Horwood. ‘Last year, numbers had climbed to 76 books but in one short year they’ve grown by another 20. The increase is gobsmacking.’

The shortlists will be announced in mid-July.
