‘The Women in Black’ to be adapted into a musical

Madeline St John’s 1993 novel The Women in Black has been adapted into a stage musical Ladies in Black. The musical will premiere with the Brisbane Theatre Company in November, followed by a production with the Melbourne Theatre Company (MTC) in early 2016. St John’s novel follows the lives of several women working in an upmarket department store in Sydney in the 1950s. The musical has been written by Carolyn Burns and musician Tim Finn and will be directed by former MTC artistic director Simon Phillips.
