UK National Book Awards cancelled this year

The UK’s National Book Awards will not run in 2015, reports the Bookseller. The consumer-focused awards are the country’s ‘only national literary prize that covers every genre of publishing’, and include a public vote for Book of the Year. Awards organiser Cactus TV said it would issue on update on the 2016 ceremony soon, while PR company Midas PR said that Cactus TV was negotiating ‘an exciting television deal’ for 2016. The Bookseller reports that ‘publishers are understood to be lukewarm about the continuation of the [awards] in their present form, and are thought to be looking at alternatives’.
