Adelaide Festival Awards for Literature 2016 winners announced
The winners of the 2016 Adelaide Festival Awards for Literature were announced at a ceremony on 27 February as part of Adelaide Writers’ Week.
The winners in each category are:
Premier’s Award ($25,000)
- Figgy in the World (Tamsin Janu, Omnibus)
Fiction ($15,000)
- To Name Those Lost (Rohan Wilson, A&U)
Nonfiction ($15,000)
- What Days are For (Robert Dessaix, Vintage)
Young adult fiction ($15,000)
- Are You Seeing Me? (Darren Groth, Woolshed Press)
Children’s literature ($15,000)
- Figgy in the World (Tamsin Janu, Omnibus)
John Bray Poetry Award ($15,000)
- Waiting for the Past (Les Murray, Black Inc.)
Wakefield Press Unpublished Manuscript Award ($10,000)
- ‘Mallee Boys’ (Charlie Archbold)
Jill Blewett Playwright’s Award ($12,500, joint winners)
- ‘Cut’ (Duncan Graham)
- ‘Blessed’ (Fleur Kilpatrick)
Barbara Hanrahan Fellowship ($15,000)
- ‘The Invisible Castle’ (Carol Lefevre)
Max Fatchen Fellowship ($15,000)
- ‘Blackbird’ (Marianne Musgrove)
Tangkanungku Pintyanthi Fellowship ($15,000)
- ‘Too Afraid to Cry’ (Ali Cobby Eckermann)
The Adelaide Festival Awards for Literature are presented biennially by the South Australian Government. Books by Australian authors that were published between 29 June 2013 and 26 June 2015 were eligible for the 2016 awards. For more information, visit the awards website here.
