Penguin Random House opens bookstore in Puerto Rico

Penguin Random House (PRH) has opened a bookstore in US territory Puerto Rico, in partnership with local bookseller The Bookmark, reports the Digital Reader. The store contains 1000 PRH titles in both Spanish and English over about 1000 square feet of retail space, and includes sections with children’s books, YA books, colouring books and graphic novels. ‘For us, this is an excellent initiative to continue our growth,’ said Juan Peña, JR Blue Label Management VP of sales and marketing, the parent company of The Bookmark. ‘In addition, we will increase the supply of books in the Puerto Rican market, which still has a healthy demand for a community of readers since the closing of the Borders stores.’ PRH will promote the store with a publicity campaign running over three months, author events featuring Claudia Gray and Lauren Kate, a Dr Seuss The Cat in the Hat storytime session, and ‘innovative technology designed to help readers discover new books and authors’.
