Wilderness Society announces 2016 children’s book award shortlists

The shortlists for the 2016 Wilderness Society Environment Award for Children’s Literature have been announced.
The shortlisted books in each category are:
Fiction
- Thirst (Lizzie Wilcock, Scholastic)
- The River and the Book (Alison Croggon, Walker Books)
- Mister Cassowary (Samantha Wheeler, UQP)
Picture fiction
- Seagull (Danny Snell, Working Title)
- A River (Marc Martin, Viking)
- Once I Heard a Little Wombat (Renee Treml, Random House)
Nonfiction
- Atmospheric (Carole Wilkinson, Walker Books)
- Platypus (Sue Whiting & Mark Jackson, Walker Books)
- Phasmid (Rohan Cleave & Coral Tulloch, CSIRO).
The award is presented annually to fiction and nonfiction books that ‘foster a love of wild places and wildlife in young Australians’ and ‘encourage a sense of responsibility for our natural world’. For more information, visit the Wilderness Society website here.
