PANZ Book Design Awards 2016 winners announced

The winners of this year’s Publishers Association of New Zealand (PANZ) Book Design Awards have been announced.

James K Baxter: Complete Prose (James K Baxter, Victoria University Press) designed by Spencer Levine and Fergus Barrowman took out the major prize, the Gerard Reid Award for best book, as well as the award for best non-illustrated book.

Convening judge and programme leader for the Whitireia Publishing Programme Odessa Owens said the winning title was the ‘complete package’, with a combined use of ‘purple ribbons and foiling work’, ‘buttery three-quarter binding’ and ‘gorgeous full-bleed images’, Levine and Barrowman ensured that the design not only ‘served’ but ‘elevated’ the literary content of James K Baxter.
