Inaugural ‘ABR’ gender fellowship unawarded

Australian Book Review’s (ABR) inaugural gender fellowship has not been awarded, with the publication citing a lack of original proposals, reports ArtsHub.

ABR announced the gender fellowship, worth $7500, earlier this year, and invited ‘proposals for a substantial article on gender in contemporary Australian creative writing in all its forms’.

ABR CEO and editor Peter Rose told ArtsHub that the publication ‘received some interesting proposals, but none that—in the unanimous view of the panel: myself, Anne Edwards, and Andrea Goldsmith—addressed the quite specific criteria in sufficiently new or compelling ways’.

Rose said the panel reviewed approximately 15 applications for the fellowship, which will be readvertised with ‘broader criteria’ in the ‘coming weeks or months’.
