HarperCollins US has launched #WhyIRead, a social media campaign to highlight literacy, which is timed to coincide with the publisher’s 200th anniversary, reports Publishers Weekly.
The publisher has asked a number of its authors to write about why they read and write, and what books influenced them, with their answers published on the HarperCollins website.
As part of the campaign, HarperCollins will donate $200,000 to literacy-related charities selected by its employees. It is also collaborating with literacy charity First Book on a consumer sweepstakes, with readers invited to recommend a First Book-eligible school or program to receive book donations.
