Shoalhaven City Council on the NSW South Coast will trial opening school libraries to the wider community, reports the South Coast Register.
Councilor Bob Proudfoot, who is also a Vincentia High School teacher, suggested a trial at the school at a council meeting in June.
Councilor Andrew Guile said that taxpayer-funded centres should be open to the community, and opening the school libraries could help the council leverage underutilised resources. A vetting process to ensure the school libraries are maintained as safe spaces for kids was also discussed.
