NZ Prime Minister’s Awards for Literary Achievement 2017 announced

Creative New Zealand has announced the winners of the 2017 Prime Minister’s Awards for Literary Achievement, worth NZ$60,000 (A$55,900) each.

Novelist Witi Ihimaera has been honoured in the fiction category, literary historian and arts writer Peter Simpson has received the award for nonfiction, and poet and children’s author Paula Green has received the award for poetry.

NZ Arts Council chair Michael Moynahan said this year’s recipients ‘are being recognised for their extraordinary legacy of literary achievement’. ‘As leaders in their respective crafts, they have engaged New Zealand readers with their storytelling and have inspired other New Zealand writers to build on their literary legacy,’ said Moynahan.
