PRH to publish ‘a heartfelt tribute’ to Australian women

Penguin Random House (PRH) Australia has announced it will publish Shout Out to the Girls: A Celebration of Awesome Australian Women, a hardcover children’s nonfiction book dedicated to notable Australian women ‘who have shaped [Australian] history and are expanding [the country’s] future’.

The collection features women ‘from all walks of life’, including Jessie Street, Betty Cuthbert, Kylie Kwong and Stella Young, as well as molecular biologists, rally car drivers and more.

Each subject will receive a double-page spread, with one page featuring a short biography and ‘a shout-out’, and an illustrated portrait by a local female artist on the facing page.

In a statement, Laura Harris, publishing director at PRH Young Readers, said ‘Shout Out to the Girls has created huge excitement and buzz in-house’. ‘It’s a book that’s been conceived, curated and written by a group of our female staff members—from publishing and editorial, through to sales and marketing. It’s a book that has enthused the thirty-five female illustrators we called upon to be involved and whose artwork has exceeded any of our expectations. But above all, it’s a book that celebrates a wonderful collection of talented, brave, individual and groundbreaking Australian women,’ said Harris.

Shout Out to the Girls: A Celebration of Awesome Australian Women will be released on 26 February 2018.
