‘Overland’ poetry prize 2017 shortlist announced

The shortlist for the 2017 Overland Judith Wright Poetry Prize for New and Emerging Poets has been announced.

The shortlisted poems are:

  • ‘Guarded by Birds’ and ‘Dropbear Poetics’ (Evelyn Araluen)
  • ‘Lepidopera’ (Zenobia Frost)
  • ‘The Love My Way Variations’ (Alex Griffins)
  • ‘Styx: a series of diary entries’ (Raelee Lancaster)
  • ‘Moon’ (Bronwyn Lovell)
  • ‘Music for a season moving’ (Mia Slater)
  • ‘whero’ (Stacey Teague)
  • ‘what even r u?’ (Rae White)

The poems were judged ‘blind’ by Overland’s poetry editor Toby Fitch and poet Ali Cobby Eckermann.

The prize awards a first place of $6000, with the first runner-up receiving $2000 and the second runner-up $1000. The three poems will be published in the first issue of Overland for 2018 in late March.
