ALS Gold Medal 2018 longlist announced

The longlist for the 2018 Australian Literature Society (ALS) Gold Medal has been announced.
The longlisted titles are:
- The Last Days of Jeanne d’Arc (Ali Alizadeh, Giramondo)
- Common People (Tony Birch, UQP)
- A Long Way from Home (Peter Carey, Hamish Hamilton)
- The Life to Come (Michelle de Kretser, A&U)
- The Agonist (Shastra Deo, UQP)
- The Last Man in Europe (Dennis Glover, Black Inc.)
- Gwen (Goldie Goldbloom, Fremantle Press)
- The Last Garden (Eva Hornung, Text)
- The Choke (Sofie Laguna, A&U)
- Hinterland (Steven Lang, UQP)
- The Passage of Love (Alex Miller, A&U)
- Border Districts (Gerald Murnane, Giramondo)
The ALS Gold Medal is presented annually by the Association for the Study of Australian Literature (ASAL) for a ‘work of outstanding literary merit’ published in the previous calendar year. Last year’s winner was Zoe Morrison for her debut novel Music and Freedom (Vintage).
