Harry Potter series tops Dymocks 101 reader poll 2018

The Harry Potter series (J K Rowling, Bloomsbury) has topped the annual Dymocks Top 101 books of all time list, dethroning All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr (Fourth Estate), from first place last year, t0 second place this year.

Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty (Pan) is placed at number three on the list. Two other Moriarty titles—The Husband’s Secret and Truly Madly Guilty (both Pan)made the list, making her the only author to have three books in the top 101.

Thirty one Australian books made the list, including five titles in the top 10. Other local releases include Jane Harper’s The Dry (Pan) in seventh spot, Markus Zusak’s The Book Thief (Pan) in seventh, M L Stedman’s The Light Between the Oceans (Vintage) and Hannah Kent’s Burial Rites (Picador) in ninth.

Eight of the top 10 books and 53% overall were written by female authors, with Dymocks category manager Ali Hammond highlighting ‘powerful female fiction’ as a ‘clear trend’ this year. In total 101,000 booklovers member votes were counted, which was up more than seven times on last year.
