Amazon US launches children’s subscription book box

In the US, Amazon has launched a children’s book box program for members of its subscription service Amazon Prime, reports Publishers Weekly.

The online retailer’s Prime Book Box will deliver children’s books by a range of publishers to subscribers every one, two or three months. Titles will be selected by Amazon Books editors, factoring in customer ratings and reviews, and each box will contain two hardcover children’s books for children aged between three and 12 years old, or four board books for children aged two and younger. Amazon said picture books will be tailored to each reader’s age.

According to the retailer, parents will also be able to swap out books with titles from an alternate list drawn up by the company. Subscribers can change the frequency of their subscription and can choose to skip a month.

The current pricing for the service is US$22.99 (A$30). The program is not available in Australia, where Amazon has yet to launch its Prime service. The retailer said at its Amazon Web Services Sydney summit that Amazon Prime ‘will come soon’, and some media outlets, such as the Financial Review, have speculated it will launch mid-year to coincide with the company’s self-branded Prime Day in July.
