Booksellers NZ 2018 conference program released

The program for the 2018 Booksellers NZ Conference, which runs from 25-26 August, has been announced.

Booksellers NZ CEO Lincoln Gould says this year’s conference is ‘all about the book, from the start point of the manuscript, to the final object you hold in your hand, and sell’.

The international keynote speaker will be Scottish bookseller and author Shaun Bythell, discussing how he made a secondhand bookshop successful in the age of Amazon. Local keynote speakers include New Zealand’s minister for finance Grant Robertson speaking on the implementation of GST for offshore purchases, and author and scientist Michelle Dickinson on self-publishing her two books.

Other highlights of the program include author Lloyd Jones in conversation with his long-time publisher Michael Heyward, from Text Publishing, about how the relationship between author and publisher can have value to bookshops; Google NZ’s Amanda Jordan on maximising your website; and fashion editor and stylist Karlya Smith on merchandising and window and floor displays.

The conference will also include the New Zealand Book Industry Awards, including Publisher of the Year and Bookseller of the Year, the Booksellers NZ annual general meeting and a business meeting day on Saturday 25 August.
