UQP sells ‘The Geography of Friendship’ to UK

The University of Queensland Press (UQP) has sold UK and Irish rights to Sally Piper’s The Geography of Friendship and 2014 debut novel Grace’s Table to Legend Press, in a two-book deal.

Legend Press commissioning editor Lauren Parsons acquired both novels direct from UQP. Both will be published in the UK market in 2019.

‘Sally’s writing is masterful. Her characters unravel spectacularly. We can’t wait for readers here to experience Sally’s work,’ Parsons told Books+Publishing.

UQP publishing director and acting-CEO Madonna Duffy said she is ‘delighted’ to see Piper’s work recognised in the British market and ‘thrilled that Legend Press have committed to her writing through a two-book deal’.

‘To have Australian-based books published on home ground is exciting enough, but to have UK publisher Legend Press tell me they can’t wait to share them with readers there took that excitement to a whole new level,’ Piper told Books+Publishing. ‘With every Australian title sold into another territory, the growing appeal and reach of Australian stories—our stories—is confirmed, which is a win for all Australian writers and our publishing industry.’
