McAlinden wins 2018 ‘KYD’ unpublished manuscript award
Literary journal Kill Your Darlings (KYD) has announced Nicole McAlinden as the winner of its 2018 unpublished manuscript award for her manuscript ‘Little Did I Know’.
McAlinden receives $5000 and a mentorship with author and KYD publishing director Hannah Kent. The judging panel for the prize comprised Kent, fellow KYD publishing director Rebecca Starford and Curtis Brown senior literary agent Pippa Masson.
‘Little Did I Know’ is a speculative fiction adventure set in rural Western Australia. Judge Masson said, ‘It’s rare to read something bursting with such potential and vitality. I can’t wait to see what she does with her unique outback thriller/speculative fiction hybrid under the expert guidance of Hannah Kent; I’m sure the stage is being set for an exciting new Australian voice.’
McAlinden’s work was chosen from a shortlist of five and a longlist of 12, both announced in June.
