Shortlist announced for National Biography Award 2018

The State Library of New South Wales (SLNSW) has announced the shortlist for the 2018 National Biography Award, worth $25,000.
The shortlisted works are:
- Songs of a War Boy (Deng Thiak Adut with Ben Mckelvey, Hachette)
- Paul Keating: The Big-Picture Leader (Troy Bramston, Scribe)
- A Writing Life: Helen Garner and Her Work (Bernadette Brennan, Text)
- The Enigmatic Mr Deakin (Judith Brett, Text)
- Writing for Raksmey: A Story of Cambodia (Joan Healy, Monash University Publishing)
- The Boy Behind the Curtain (Tim Winton, Penguin).
The shortlist was chosen from 81 entries. The winner, who will receive $25,000, will be announced on Monday, 6 August. Each shortlisted author will receive $1000.
Senior judge Richard White said the six shortlisted books demonstrate that ‘Australia’s long tradition of evocative memoir and illuminating biography is alive and well’.
