A&U to publish Thai cave rescue book in October

Allen & Unwin has acquired world rights to The Great Cave Rescue: The Extraordinary Story of the Thai Boy Soccer Team Trapped in a Cave for 18 Days by journalist James Massola.

As Fairfax’s Southeast Asia correspondent, based in Jakarta, Massola travelled to Thailand to report on the rescue effort to save 12 Thai boys—aged 11 to 16 years old—and their coach, who were trapped in the Tham Luang cave. Massola published 32 news stories on the rescue for Fairfax in July. His book will include interviews with key players in the rescue along with Thai locals and officials

The book is due to be published on 1 October, which gives it a short period of only three months to be written, edited, designed and published.

Massola said, ‘Good news stories are few and far between. I can still scarcely believe I was there to witness first-hand the miracle of Tham Luang. I’ve always felt being a journalist is an incredible privilege, witnessing major events and writing the first draft of history. And now I’m thrilled to be able to actually tell the full story in a book with Allen & Unwin.’
