‘ABR’ announces Elizabeth Jolley Short Story Prize 2018 shortlist
The Australian Book Review (ABR) has announced the shortlist for the 2018 Elizabeth Jolley Short Story Prize.
The shortlisted works and their authors are:
- ‘Vasco’ by Claire Aman (NSW)
- ‘Between the Mountain and the Sea’ by Sharmini Aphrodite (Singapore)
- ‘Ruins’ by Madelaine Lucas (NSW/USA).
The judging panel of Patrick Allington, Michelle Cahill and Beejay Silcox selected the shortlist from almost 1200 entries from around the world.
The 2018 Jolley Prize is worth a total of $12,500, with the winner receiving $7000 and the other shortlisted writers receiving supplementary prizes of $2000 and $1000. All three shortlisted stories will appear in ABR’s August fiction issue.
The judges also commended three other stories: ‘Joan Mercer’s Fertile Head’ by S J Finn, ‘Hardflip’ by Mirandi Riwoe, and ‘Break Character’ by Chloe Wilson. The three commended authors each receive $850 and publication of their stories in ABR online.
The winner will be announced at an event in Melbourne on 20 August.
