A&U acquires UK rights to ‘Ten Steps to Nanette’

Allen & Unwin (A&U) has acquired UK rights to comedian Hannah Gadsby’s memoir Ten Steps to Nanette.

A&U initially acquired ANZ rights to the book last year via Kevin Whyte at Token Artists. The publisher subsequently acquired UK rights at auction after the Netflix special based on Gadsby’s stand-up comedy show launched in June this year.

Publisher Kelly Fagan says: ‘Publishing Ten Steps to Nanette will be an absolute highlight. Hannah Gadsby is an extraordinary talent and her manuscript is overflowing with passion, intelligence, humour, and her raw, galvanising honesty. Allen & Unwin are geared to make Gadsby’s literary debut one of the most significant nonfiction releases of 2019.’

Rights to Ten Steps to Nanette have also been sold to Ballantine in the US, and a number of other territories, including Brazil, Catalonia, the Netherlands, Germany and Spain.

Ten Steps to Nanette will be simultaneously published in ANZ, the UK and the US in 2019.
