Mununggurr-Williams wins 2018 Australian Poetry Slam
Darwin-based Djapu poet Melanie Mununggurr-Williams has won the 2018 Australian Poetry Slam national final, reports the Guardian.
At the national final held at the Sydney Opera House on 21 October, Mununggurr-Williams performed her poem about Aboriginal identity and running.
As the winner, Mununggurr-Williams will undertake an international writers’ festival tour, performing at Byron Writers Festival, Ubud Writers & Readers Festival, Singapore Writers Festival and Hong Kong International Literary Festival in 2019.

As previously reported by Books+Publishing, Penguin Random House Australia in March acquired 13-year-old slam poet Solli Raphael’s first book, Limelight, after he became he youngest winner of the Australian Poetry Slam at age 12.
