‘Cardinal’ available in Victoria after suppression order lifts

After court suppression orders relating to the trial of Cardinal George Pell were lifted yesterday, 26 February, ABC journalist Louise Milligan’s book Cardinal: The Rise and Fall of George Pell (MUP) is now available in Victorian bookshops again.

The book was withdrawn from sale in Victorian bookshops in late June 2017, when Victoria Police charged Pell for historical sexual assault offences.

Pell was convicted of five charges of sexual crimes against children on 11 December 2018, but the charges were not able to be reported until 26 February, as Pell was still to face court under a second set of charges relating to separate alleged historical offences. The suppression order was lifted after the Department of Public Prosecutions dropped the second set of charges.

Cardinal won the 2017 Walkley Book Award, as well as the 2018 Melbourne Prize for Literature Civic Choice Award.
