Hamad’s ‘White Tears/Brown Scars’ sold to US

North American rights to journalist and academic Ruby Hamad’s forthcoming book White Tears/Brown Scars (MUP) have been sold via auction to US publisher Catapult.

Rachel Crawford at MacKenzie Wolf sold rights on behalf of Alex Adsett Literary Agency to Catapult associate editor Megha Majumdar.

Hamad’s debut book, which grew out of an opinion piece in the Guardian that went viral, examines Black, Indigenous and Arab feminisms to show how white distress has been weaponised against women of colour. The book traces histories from Rhodesia to slave-era United States, including the ‘BBQ Becky’ incident.

White Tears/Brown Scars will be published in Australia in September.
