SLV launches $75,000 appeal to acquire Bruce Postle Archive
The State Library of Victoria (SLV) has launched a public appeal to raise $75,000 by the end of June to acquire and preserve the archive of award-winning photojournalist Bruce Postle.
The library is hoping to buy almost 100,000 items from Postle, including photos, cameras, press passes and theatre programs, reports the Age. The photos cover more than 50 years of ‘social, political and sporting moments in Australia’s history’.
Library collections director Jo Ritale said Postle’s archive would be an important resource for researchers and a ‘beautiful visual record’ of Victorian history. ‘He was really known for getting “the shot”,’ she told the Age. ‘Bruce has a way of connecting with the person he is taking the image of, the politicians, the celebrities. The result of that is always a fantastic image.’
