McConnochie wins Green Earth Book Award for Children’s Fiction
Australian author Mardi McConnochie’s book The Flooded Earth (Pajama Press) has won the Best Children’s Fiction category of the US-based Green Earth Book Awards.
Each year, environmental nonprofit the Nature Generation announces the Green Earth Book Award winners on Earth Day to ‘draw attention to the authors and illustrators whose books best inspire youth to grow a deeper appreciation, respect and responsibility for their natural environment’.
Salisbury University associate professor of education Patricia Dean said it was the award’s ‘biggest year to date for the number of high-quality submissions, making the competition fierce’. ‘The stories were powerful and relevant, fuelling passionate discussions within the selection committees,’ said Dean.
The winners will be presented with their awards and US$1500 (A$2100) at an event in Washington DC later in the year. For more information, click here.
