Hardie Grant Egmont sells two Sophie Beer titles to the US

Hardie Grant Egmont has sold North American rights to two books by illustrator Sophie Beer to Penguin imprint Dial Books for Young Readers.

Beer’s book Love Makes a Family sold at auction in the US to Dial Books, and the imprint will also publish companion title Kindness Makes Us Strong (due out in ANZ in June), later in 2019. Both board books ‘spread messages of inclusivity, diversity and community in a fun and engaging way, and are brought to life by Sophie’s vibrant illustrations’.

North American rights to Beer’s previous board book series, ‘Pups’ (also Hardie Grant Egmont), were sold to Little Bee.

Hardie Grant Egmont acquiring editor Alyson O’Brien said: ‘The moment Sophie’s colourful artwork caught our eye, we knew she belonged on the Little Hare list. Her ideas and commitment to social justice are just as uplifting as her illustrations, and it’s no wonder she’s fast becoming a firm favourite in young households. Modern families are engaged with the world and talking about big issues with their children, and Sophie’s books are a beacon of joy and positivity.’

All deals were negotiated by Hardie Grant Egmont rights director Annabel Barker.
