‘At the End of Holyrood Lane’ wins SCBWI Crystal Kite Award

Children’s picture book At the End of Holyrood Lane (Dimity Powell & Nicky Johnston, EK Books) has won the Australian and New Zealand division of this year’s Crystal Kite Member Choice Awards, presented by the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI).

At the End of Holyrood Lane follows a young girl named Flick whose family life is plagued by domestic violence.

EK publisher Anouska Jones said: ‘At The End of Holyrood Lane uses a storm metaphor to open a conversation with children at risk. It’s a tough subject to approach in a picture book and we are thrilled to have been able to work with the talented combination of author Dimity Powell and illustrator Nicky Johnston to produce this much-needed and beautifully crafted book.’

The Crystal Kite Awards are peer-given awards presented annually in a number of US and international divisions. Another book published by EK Books, Smile Cry (Tania McCartney & Jess Racklyeft), was awarded the prize in 2017, while last year’s winner in the Australia and New Zealand division was the picture book The Scared Book (Debra Tidball, illus by Kim Siew, Lothian).
