Dervla McTiernan has won the Barry Award for best paperback original for her 2018 novel The Ruin (HarperCollins).

The annual literary crime awards, named for American critic and crime fiction fan Barry Gardner, were established in 1997. The winners are voted for by the readers of Deadly Pleasures mystery magazine.

McTiernan tweeted: ‘Delighted, delighted with this gorgeous award! Thank you so much to George Easter, Jeff Popple, and all at Deadly Pleasures and #bouchercon2019 for this utterly fantastic evening :)’.

The winners were announced at Bouchercon, the World Mystery Convention, in Dallas, USA.
