HarperCollins to publish new Dalton novel in June 2020

HarperCollins Australia will publish Trent Dalton’s second novel All Our Shimmering Skies in June 2020.

Set in Darwin in 1942, All Our Shimmering Skies follows ‘motherless Molly Hook, the gravedigger’s daughter’, who, along with her travelling companions actress Greta and fallen Japanese fighter pilot Yukio, is seeking out a sorcerer who put a curse on her family.

The publisher said in a statement: ‘All Our Shimmering Skies is a story about gifts that fall from the sky, curses we dig from the earth and the secrets we bury inside ourselves.’

HarperCollins head of fiction Catherine Milne said: ‘Trent’s second novel is an odyssey of true love and grave danger; of darkness and light; of bones and blue skies. It’s a buoyant, beautiful and magical novel abrim with warmth, wit and wonder, a love letter to Australia and the art of looking up.’

Dalton’s debut novel Boy Swallow Universe, published in June 2018, has broken the record for the fastest-selling Australian fiction debut since Nielsen BookScan records began, having sold over 200,000 print copies in Australia in 72 weeks.

All Our Shimmering Skies will be published under the Fourth Estate imprint on 16 June 2020.
