#AuthorsForFireys raises $486,600 for bushfire relief

The #AuthorsForFireys campaign has confirmed $486,600 in donations for bushfire relief across Australia.

Campaign co-organiser and author Emily Gale said the campaign registered an additional $43,400 in pledged donations that haven’t yet been confirmed.

As previously reported by Books+Publishing, Gale and fellow author Nova Weetman launched the Twitter hashtag on 6 January. More than 500 authors, illustrators and publishing professionals donated over 1000 individual auction items, including signed books, original artwork, one-off experiences, and professional editing and publishing services.

Gale told the Sydney Morning Herald: ‘We’ve seen such generosity. The sheer scale of the thing is … a sign of how we’re all feeling about Australia at the moment. A mixture of devastation and determination.’
