MWF to cut artist numbers for 2020 schools program
Melbourne Writers Festival (MWF) plans to reduce the number of artists appearing in its 2020 schools program, reports the Age.
While more than 60 artists participated in the 2019 schools program, around 15 will appear this year. Festival organisers said the redesigned schools program will ‘better meet the needs of students and teachers’.
MWF associate director Gene Smith told the Age that the program will still run over four full days, catering to primary and secondary students. Organisers expect the same number of schools and students to access the program as last year, while the main festival will still include dedicated young adult and family programming.
For the first time, the 2020 schools program will offer a teachers’ professional development day ‘featuring authors from the schools program sharing insights and strategies to develop students’ literacy and creativity’.
MWF 2020 runs from 7–16 August.
