WestWords, Booktopia launch ‘Booktober’ fundraiser
In partnership with Booktopia, WestWords has launched Booktober, a new annual event ‘to encourage people in reading more books’ and raise funds for WestWords’ work providing books and literacy programs to disadvantaged schools within the greater Western Sydney region.
Participants sign up, decide how many books they intend to read through the month of October and seek sponsorship for their reading, donating the funds they raise to WestWords. The Booktober website links to online bookseller Booktopia for several recommended authors and books and says Booktopia will be ‘donating a small percentage of all books purchased via links on the Booktober site to WestWords’.
WestWords is a not-for-profit charity working across Greater Western Sydney with centres in Campbelltown, Parramatta and Blacktown.
‘WestWords is dedicated to celebrating and championing the stories of people, places and cultures that compromise the heart of Western Sydney,’ WestWords said. ‘Literature, self-expression and creativity has the power to change the lives of children and young people and with the support of Booktober, they are given an opportunity to develop literacy and life skills through telling their own stories.’
Booktober will run from 1 to the 31 of October 2020, with donations due by 20 November 2020. For more information see the Booktober website.
