Danger Prize 2020 shortlist announced

The Bad: Sydney Crime Writers Festival has announced the shortlist for this year’s Danger Prize, awarded for the best book, film, podcast or TV drama about Sydney and crime.

The shortlisted works are:

  • Dead Man Walking (Kate McClymont & Vanda Carson, Vintage)
  • Shark Arm (Phillip Roope and Kevin Meagher, A&U)
  • The Killing Streets (Tanya Bretherton, Hachette)
  • Dead Man Switch (Tara Moss, HarperCollins).

The judging panel, the board of the Bad: Sydney Crime Writers Festival, said it was saddened that ‘so little crime fiction is being set in Sydney’.

‘Possibly most of our novelists feel unable to compete with the city’s wealth of true crime stories, reflected by the number of excellent true crime books on the short list,’ the judges said.

The Danger Prize will be presented during this year’s Bad: Sydney Crime Writers Festival, a two-day live program running on 7–8 November.

Last year’s winner was The Teacher’s Pet podcast by Australian journalist Hedley Thomas.
