Wollongong Writers Festival 2020 program announced
The program for the eighth Wollongong Writers Festival, which will run online from 23 to 29 November, has been announced.
Helen Garner, Tara June Winch, Bruce Pascoe, Dervla McTiernan and Jess Hill will be among more than 40 artists exploring the festival’s theme ‘Writing the Body’.
‘Over the course of 12 online panel discussions, writers will consider the human body through a range of lenses, including the traumatised body, the non-white body, the trans body, the dying body, the non-monogamous body, the disabled body, the sick body, the sex worker body, the aging body, the sexual body, the animal body, and bodies hidden by history,’ said the festival in a statement.
‘The body as a subject in literature has always been both fascinating and politically imperative and remains one of the most important topics a writer can pay attention to today,’ said festival director Chloe Higgins. ‘To write about what it means to inhabit a body is to write about what it means to be human.’
