Oz Day honours, Perth Festival program and more

A handful of book industry figures have been recognised in the annual Australia Day honours.

The full line-up for the 2021 Perth Festival Literature & Ideas program—which runs from 8–28 February—has been announced. A new independent bookstore, The Book Dispensary, has opened in Forbes, NSW, while The Book Cow has opened in Canberra, as Dymocks Tuggeranong announces its closure.

Create NSW has announced a new $30,000 SLNSW Aboriginal Creative Fellowship, while in New Zealand awards news, the recipients of the Grimshaw Sargeson Fellowships and the NZ Sunday Star-Times short story prize were announced.

Overseas, the UK print market was up 5% in 2020, as UK indies struggle with added costs and delays associated with Brexit. Meanwhile, South Korean internet platform Naver has acquired Wattpad for more than $775 million, and the winners of the T S Eliot and Costa Book of the Year awards were announced.
