Australia Reads announces 2021 special edition books

Australia Reads has announced four new Australia Reads Special Editions publishing in late 2021 to coincide with Australian Reading Hour on Tuesday, 14 September.

The following four books, valued at $4.99 each, were ‘especially created to help make good books more readily accessible for young people’:

  • Little Book Big Universe: A Guide to Exploring Australia’s Night Skies by Lisa Harvey-Smith, with illustrations by First Dog on the Moon (Thames & Hudson)
  • The Deep End by Jenna Guillaume (Pan Macmillan)
  • AFL Little Legends: The Missing Cup by Nicole Hayes & Adrian Beck (Hardie Grant Children’s Publishing)
  • The Magnificent Hercules Quick by Ursula Dubosarsky, with illustrations by Andrew Joyner (Allen & Unwin).

Now in its 10th year, Australian Reading Hour was rebranded as Australia Reads in 2020 and became an ‘always on’ campaign in 2021, headlined by the annual Australian Reading Hour event. Last year the Australia Reads campaign delivered sales of close to 20,000 copies of the four books by the 2020 ambassadors Anna Fienberg, Jacqueline Harvey, Peter Helliar and Will Kostakis.

According to Australia Reads, over 200 Australian adult and children’s authors and illustrators across the country have signed up as ambassadors for the 2021 campaign. A full list of ambassadors will be available on the Australia Reads website from 1 June.
