EWF 2021 goes completely digital
The Emerging Writers’ Festival (EWF), which was originally planned as a hybrid festival of both online and in-person events at locations across Melbourne, has announced it will shift its 2021 program entirely online in light of ongoing Covid-19 restrictions.
‘Although we wish more than anything to proceed with the original version of the festival we had put so much love and hard work into, we feel it is best to move our festival online for 2021,’ said EWF artistic director Ruby-Rose Pivet-Marsh. ‘This decision was not made easily, but in the interests of the health and safety of our team, artists and community. Our 2020 digital festival demonstrated that the internet is an incredible platform for the arts.’
The festival made the decision to launch its 2020 event online under similar circumstances.
EWF 2021 artist Jeanine Leane said, ‘It speaks volumes that the festival is still committed to supporting and showcasing emerging artists, despite the challenges and obstacles Covid-19 has presented to them for the second year running.’
According to festival organisers, the updated digital program means EWF and its emerging artists will be able to reach a wider audience. The festival will be accessible to anyone, anywhere, with an internet connection.
EWF 2021 will run digitally from 16–26 June 2021. See the updated digital program here.
